"Providing Innovative Water and Wastewater Solutions"

 City of Marathon, Florida
Current Contracts

Project Date: 09/01/2008 to Present

The City of Marathon should be commended on its proactive approach to meeting the FDEP mandated AWT "2010" nutrient removal requirements.  The Utility Operations Contract Services requested by the City to accomodate the operations of its current and future facilities demanded cost effective O&M and strict compliance to regulatory dictates.  The City's comprehensive contract also requires maintenance of vacuum collection systems, effective WW residuals process control, PM to multiple WWTF's, associated structures and also the City stormwater systems.  U.S. Water Services Corporation was initially awarded the Wastewater Utility, Vacuum Collection and Stormwater Operations and Maintenance Contract on 09/01/08 by the City of Marathon.  In an additional competitive proposal process in 2009,  the City once again selected U.S. Water Services Corporation to provide contract operating services.  The Keys have been designated as an "Area of Critical State Concern" by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and as such are under intense scrutiny from the State regulatory agencies.  The Keys require a high level of AWT and BAT system operator knowledge in order to meet all of the additional requirements imposed by the State regarding wastewater plants operating within the immediate area. U.S. Water Services Corporation evaluated the operational needs and requirements of the various service areas included in the City of Marathon wastewater utility operations; devised a staffing plan that provides FDEP required coverage and takes full advantage of economies of scale that that our local presence allows us to offer the City.  USWSC employs fulltime Florida certified operators and maintenance/residuals technicians that are permanently stationed in the Florida Keys.  Among many other utility sites in the Florida Keys area, U.S. Water also operates the Plantation Key Colony WWTP and Vacuum Collection System on behalf of the Village of Islamorada which treats wastewater from North Plantation Key and several other communities that are in the process of tying into the facility.
