The Acquisition Marks U.S. Water’s Further Expansion into the Desalination and Water Reuse Market
NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – U.S. Water Services Corporation (U.S. Water), a leading provider of water and wastewater utility management, operations, and maintenance services, announced today that it acquired American Water’s 50% partnership interest in its joint venture company with Acciona Agua Corporation (ACCIONA). The Company is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility, the second largest seawater desalination facility in the United States, providing up to 25 million gallons per day (MGD) of drinking water to the Tampa Bay region since 2007. Renamed as U.S. Water-Acciona Seawater Desalination Partners, LLC, the Company secured the renewal of its service agreement with Tampa Bay Water through November 2029 and is expected to support and advance Tampa Bay Water’s continued investment in the facility.
The acquisition marks U.S. Water’s further expansion into the desalination and water reuse market. “We are thrilled to announce our company’s continued expansion into the desalination and water reuse market. This expansion not only reflects our commitment to innovation but also underscores our dedication to addressing one of the most pressing global challenges – water scarcity. This endeavor aligns with our core values and vision for a more sustainable future, and we are excited to make a meaningful impact in the realm of water resource management in the state of Florida,” said U.S. Water CEO Gary Deremer.
“At ACCIONA, the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility stands as a testament to our unwavering mastery of engineering challenges. In 2004, we remediated and revitalized the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility. Over the past 18 years, our dedication has transformed this facility into a flagship in the battle against water scarcity,” affirmed ACCIONA Vice President Fernando Cortabitarte.
This acquisition results in the expansion of the strategic partnership between Acciona and U.S. Water and it follows the partnership’s recent selection by the Polk Regional Water Cooperative for the design support, start-up and commissioning, and long-term operations and maintenance of two new brackish water reverse osmosis systems, with total capacity of 22.5 MGD, serving the Polk County, Florida region.
