Reducing the feed rate or organic loading to the aeration tank could also address the process condition.

The best response may depend on more than current treatment conditions. If blowers are nearing the end of their service life, for example, operating them near maximum flow and pressure could accelerate wear and increase the risk of premature failure. In that situation, reducing organic loading may improve treatment performance while minimizing additional stress on critical equipment.

This is where structured decision-making becomes valuable. Decision trees, operating guidance, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and standardized response procedures help operators respond consistently across shifts while incorporating process conditions, equipment reliability, maintenance requirements, operational constraints, and longer-term facility objectives.
