Project Video: Delivering Reliable Water Solutions at the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility

We are proud to share an inside look at U.S. Water’s recently completed upgrade of the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility. Watch the full project story here: Project Video.

Modernizing Critical Infrastructure

In 2023, US Water acquired a 50% stake in the operations and maintenance of the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility. Originally built in 2003, this facility is the second-largest seawater desalination plant in the United States, with the capacity to produce up to 25 million gallons of high-quality drinking water each day. This project centered on replacing outdated systems with advanced reverse osmosis (RO) technology—the heart of seawater desalination. The RO system filters seawater at the molecular level, removing salt and impurities to provide clean, safe drinking water to the community.

Demolition began in January 2024, launching a high-priority initiative on a strict 12-month timeline. With no room for delays, U.S. Water and our partners delivered with speed, precision, and purpose.

On Time. On Budget. Built to Last.

By January 2025, the upgraded facility was fully operational, delivered on schedule and within budget. U.S. Water will continue to provide full-time operations and maintenance at the plant through November 2029, ensuring reliable performance for years to come. Producing 25 million gallons of drinking water per day, the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility is a drought-proof solution and a vital component of the region’s diverse water supply system.

At U.S. Water, we are proud to advance water solutions that sustain communities—today and into the future.  Contact us for more information on how we can optimize performance at your facility.
